Highland Glory is Norway power metal act. They cover a standard The Trooper in their 2005 album, Forever Endeavour. The drum intro is slighly improvised, tempo are slighly faster. Singer is full of energy with his high pitches power metal voices.

Iron Maidnem - 10 Wasted Years 2006

10 Wasted Years - Tribute Band 2006
Iron Maidnem

Of all Iron Maiden tribute band it is Hungary who can come out with one of the best, the most serious result. Iron Maidnem, in Hungary 'Maidnem' mean 'almost', is the band dedicated to Irons, first just as their hobby but now they are professional playing in large concert stage. 10 Wasted Years is compilation of their works, recorded professionally and it's worth to included as decent tribute album here.

The selection of songs discharge everything from Di'Anno era but focus on Maiden's Golden Years. Come to hear their hard works on this album. The selections is a mixed between hits such as Wasted Years, Run To The Hills and rather rare performed track, Sun And Steel, Sea of Madness ? Well, most will argue the last track, Alexander the Great is great in this cover.

Iron Maidnem already taken participation on Hungary's very own Iron Maiden tribute album, Somewhere in Hungary, where they volunteer two song, Hallowed Be Thy Name and Powerslave. Rate for this album 4.5/5 rating.

Stygma IV - 22 Acacia Avenue (2001)

Song : 22 Acacia Avenue
Performer : Stygma IV
Origin: Austria
Album : Phobia, 2001

Stygma IV is a power metal band that somehow manage to get a lot of appreciation among fans. This is mainly for their power metal works that rated as 'very good' by many fans. Their album Hell Within was responsible for that.

In this Iron Maiden cover of 22 Acacia Avenue, we got a heavier guitars and raw vocals. Addition of backing strings also make this version fresh. Guitar are re-works to give it more push.

from the Metal Archives notes :

Stygma IV are no longer active due to drummer Herb Greisberger's inability to play anymore. Back problems forced him to stop and on November 24th, 2005 the band decided they would not continue with another drummer.

Günter Maier and Alexander Hilzensauer are nowadays playing in metal bands from southern Germany.

Previously known as Muddy Crutch, then Big Heat and Stigmata, the band added the appendage "IV" after the release of their first album, due to existing rights on the name by another band. After a while, they had to rename themselves again because of court ruling, and since then they are known as Stygma IV.

Great cover of 22 Acacia Avenue!

Infernal Poetry - Fear of the Dark (2005)

Song : Fear of the Dark
Performer : Infernal Poetry
Origin: Italy
Album : Beholding the Unpure, 2005

They are death metaller from Italy. Infernal Poetry had gain a numbers of followers through their quality albums of about four of them. The cover version of Fear of the Dark comes in their 2nd album, Beholding the Unpure. The styles is death metal and they done it quite well. The most significant to praise is their improvisation over the riff. We got to hear something different yet musically logical so we don't really feel away from Iron Maiden's original. The death metal voice is okay, we got a ultra deep intro then a heavy death metal voice for the rest. The group also just release a new 2013 album called Paraphilliac, check them out if you are a death metal fans.

Nice re-arrangement of Fear of the Dark in death metal style.

Harrow - Wrathchild (1998)

Song : Wrathchild
Performer : Harrow
Origin: Netherland
Album : The Phoenix Rising, 1998

Harrow is a power metal band from Netherland. They were disbanded now, after being up there since 1982.  The incarnation of this group is a recording studio where you can found in this website http://www.music-audio.nl/ and the story about Wrathchild cover can be found here http://www.harrow.nl/studio/indexband.html - which contain this very Mp3 in 128 kbps quality for free there.

This version of Wrathchild is rather different with a little twist here and there. The instrumentation is okay and singing also enjoyable. The intro is fresh with thick bass sound in the beginning and then an improved riff. Vocals is very close to Di'Anno style.

Clean recording and good touch on this version of Wrathchild.

Song : The Number of the Beast
Performer : Chainsaw Disaster
Origin: Brazil

Chainsaw Disaster is Brazil deathcore act. The choice of The Number of the Beast is relevant to their aggresive metal music. The cover come from 2011 album, New World Order.

Erik Gronwall - Run To The Hills (2009)

Song : Run to The Hills
Performer : Erik Gronwall
Origin: Sweden
Album : Erik Gronwall 2009

I know Bruce Dickinson not very keen about singing contest ala the Idol, but this is the version done quite well by the alumni of Sweden Idol champion. Erik Gronwall is the winner of Sweden 2009. In his show, he was performing Iron Maiden Run To The Hills to the jury and audiences with confidence, and to be recorded later in his prize debut album. The vocal is good, as expected from the singing champion. The instrumentation is faithful with blazing guitar solos, I still searching the responsible guitarist for this version. Unfortunately in studio version, the drum is missing many important signature drum in this song. Erik Gronwall to be front a hard rock band H.E.A.T. and to be collaborated with member of KISS as well.

Great vocal from the Swedish Idol champion.

Origin: USA (Albuquerque, New Mexico)
Album : Into The Pit , 2007
              Lex Metalis, 2009

Ultimatum is USA thrash metal band. The band actually had been around since 1992, marking about twenty years of thrash metal career. The version of Wrathchild found in their 2007 album, Into The Pit and then included again in all cover songs album, Lex Metalis. Wrathchild sung by their singer, Scott Waters, and he added a bit of punk-thrash (?) style into it, well short of. Not much surprise since the song been faithful played as original. The version quite success in capturing early '80 Iron Maiden feel.

Clean and rather raw version of Wrathchild.

Aborym - Hallowed Be Thy Name (2013)

Song : Hallowed Be Thy Name
Performer : Aborym
Origin: Italy
Album : Dirty, 2013

Italian Industrial-Electro-Extreme Metal band, Aborym is teasing out the materials for their 2013 album, Dirty. One of them to be celebrated is Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name. Behold, this is not your usual Hallowed but a highly original Electro Metal version. The intro and opening runs 'normally' but soon when the verses come in we got that disco industrial beat by the band. Singing are in extreme metal and it's managed okay. The overall feel is somehow, still there and still hallowed heavy. Come to pre-order their creative works in album Dirty now.

Fozzy - Where Eagles Dare (2002)

Song : Where Eagles Dare
Performer : Fozzy
Origin: USA
Album : Happenstance, 2002

"For over 20 years, Fozzy had been criminally locked in a room of sushi and geishas...forced under the sword  to write many heavy metal classics that we actually heard today. This is a story according Fozzy, the heavy metal band that frontman by Chris Jericho. "

And here we got Where Eagles Dare, again in very good performance by USA heavy metal band, Fozzy. Of course they need to be extremely serious covering this to 'support' their background story. Drumming is the first thing to take attention when it's come to Where Eagles Dare, and mr. KK LaFlame covered this perfectly. Chris Jericho aka Moongoose McQueen is talented muscle vocalist we can rely on. The song got covered in their second album, Happenstance.

Another stunning cover of Where Eagles Dare that nobody seems to know.

In the last song of their successful World Tour, the Number of the Beast is given to the audience. The version started with long guitar demo by Kiko which answered with Felipe in bass. Alex Skolnick Trio - The Trooper (2004)

Song : The Trooper
Performer : Alex Skolnick Trio
Origin: USA
Album : Transformation, 2004

Beware of total rip off in Jazz on the song The Trooper. Alex Skolnick from Testament fame had fallen into the jazz world in the late '90. In earlier 2004 they manage to release a jazz tribute to heavy metal tunes. This version of the Trooper only recognizable in the intro, and the rest is just a jazz improvisation by the team. Alex Skolnick played with Nathan Peck, Double-Bass, Vocals and Matt Zebroski in Drums, Percussion, Vocals.

Album : Live in der Zeche Carl (1994)

The Teutonic Thrash Metal veteran himself also play Iron Maiden. The Trooper by Sodom found in their early live album, Live In Der Zeche Carl 1994. Heart of Cygnus - Revelations (2009)

Song : Revelations
Performer : Heart of Cygnus
Origin: USA (Colorado / California)
Album : Over Mountain, Under Hill 2009

They informed us about their style of music as "Hobbit Rock" in their Facebook page, but actually Heart of Cygnus can be anything from hard rock, progressive rock to heavy metal. The Northern Denver band dedicated one song of Iron Maiden, Revelations, in their 2009 album, Over Mountain Under Hill. The sound of this version is faithful and regeneration of '80 guitar overdrive tune. Vocal are good and instrumentation are good.

Enjoyable version of Revelations in progressive rock feel.

Emerald Night - Childhood's End (2005)

Song : Childhood's End
Performer : Emerald Night
Origin: Russia
Album : Лесная Готика Gothic Forest, 2005

This is actually a semi professional work from Russian heavy metal band, Emerald Night. But Childhood's End is one of most rare song to be heard from Iron Maiden, so a cover is worth mentioning. The drum is too machine sound, but the vocal is listenable.

Listenable version of Childhood's End although this is a bit amateurish version.

Sonic Altar - 2 Minutes to Midnight (2009)

Song : 2 Minutes to Midnight
Performer : Sonic Altar
Origin: New Zealand
Album : Video Release Only

This is perhaps the only entry from the Kiwis in this database of Iron Maiden's cover project. Sonic Altar is New Zealand latest heavy metal act. Their cover of 2 Minutes to Midnight also only a video release project, taped in 2009. The vocal is great in this video. Instrumentation follow closely to the original. The drum is a bit weird since the drummer seems only use one Tom Tom, hence a lot of usage of snare to fill. The band only released one full studio album, No Sacrifice in 2010.

Finally one of the best Iron Maiden cover from year 2012, is from Testament. Chuck Billy is doing one more Iron Maiden song, as he already sing in Fear of the Dark from album Numbers from the Beast. He put the slave power into the song making it angrier, darker and heavier. Riffs are power up as well with Alex Skolnick and Eric exchanging solos to phenomenal. The drum got it moments as well. The track is a bonus in their Vinyl and DVD version, together with several other cover tunes.

Song : The Trooper
Performer : Stryper
Origin: USA
Album : The Covering 2011

The Yellow and Black army also join in the cover of The Trooper! Stryper give it a shot in their 2011 album, The Covering. Michael Sweet voices can be heard in this energetic, '80s glam metal version. Just as the veteran of '80s hair metal band, the version runs smooth without potential critics. Stryper proves Iron Maiden can get along with his Christian fans, as a matter of trivial, Nicko McBrain had been long rumoured to be reborn Christian in this context. We bet most of Stryper fans are as old as the first witness of The Trooper being released, thirty years ago.

Song : Hallowed Be Thy Name

Origin: Italy
Album : Word to the Wise 2009

Clairvoyants build their career as Iron Maiden tribute band for years. They are from Como and now doing their own original stuff, this included two full studio albums. Their power metal influence is understandable, coming from Italy. Hallowed Be Thy Name is their memory about their experience covering the beast. The highlight for this version is, it is ex-Angra, ex-Shaman Andre Matos who sing it. Andre Matos was also the one who try his luck as Bruce Dickinson replacement back in the day. Benevolence - Hallowed Be Thy Name (2011)

Song : Hallowed Be Thy Name
Performer : Benevolence
Origin: Sweden
Album :  God, 2011

Now if you always think Hallowed Be Thy Name can be an awesome opera and choirs, here you got it right. Benevolence, the operatic symphonic metal render this song into operatic dark theme. The song is fully retouch with a twist of operatic symphonic style. The song was part of their concept album, God. And if you check the song list you'll find Number of the Beast as well. But the version of Number, only that the lyric and the music is too obscured to be connected, eventhough Benevolence stated it is an Iron Maiden cover.

One of surprise version in Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Renuen is melodic death metal from Belarus. They had been putting three studio albums in their career with the last one is Sublimated in 2012. This version of The Trooper found on their debut, System Is Dead. The death metal is brutally charge here. While the 'standard' growl is okay, the swine-like growl joke in the chorus is just too much.

An okay death metal version but weird in the chorus.
