This is the third stunning Youtube video music by instructor Aaron O'Keefe, which put his students on 'practice' by playing many heavy metal classics. After covering The Ghost of Navigator, they do another rare song by Iron Maiden, The Longest Day, continued with Legacy.

For this cover, a piano was there to take the main theme. Very talented girl to takes the singing job. Most of the song stays the same. The drummer in tie did a great job. For Legacy, a cello and violin is added. Both two songs got new adaptation with these covers.

Rare performances of The Longest Day, performed by boys and girl!

Ghost of the Navigator - Aaron O'Keefe and Students

Song : Ghost of the Navigator
Performer : Students of Aaron O'Keefe
Origin: USA
Album :  Youtube , 2012

A stunning Youtube channel by music instructor Aaron O'Keefe which put his students on 'practice' by playing many heavy metal classics. In this next video, the lads and girls take on very rare tunes from Iron Maiden in cover version, the Ghost of the Navigator.

Everything looks awesome because the fact that these pre-puberty prodigies just made it looks easy. The singer got difficult task today and struggling to get the closest rendition. As the other member, they are good. Three guitarist as in the original format. Solos are great as well. On the closing credit they did Fear of the Dark.

Rare performances of Ghost of the Navigator, by musical students!

The Number Of the Beast - Aaron O'Keefe and students (2012)

Song : The Number of the Beast
Performer : Students of Aaron O'Keefe
Origin: USA
Album :  Youtube , 2012

As can be seen in our late blog post, Iron Maiden songs have always been on the repertoire of rock music tutorial. Aaron O'Keefe happens to be music instructor and in this video he lead his students to performed The Number of the Beast. The quality is astonishing when considered to the fact of the performer's ages. Main highlight is the singer who nailed it down with amazing rendition. Drummer are great as well the guitarists and bassists. The students names can be seen in the Youtube video descriptions. And cute credit to the girl who done the intro speech.

See this energetic teens performing Iron Maiden as their music lesson arch.

The Trooper - Steve Vai Phil Hilbourne (2012)

Song : The Trooper
Performer : Steve Vai (G), Phil Hilbourne (G), Andy Frost,  Peter Eldridge (V), Nicko McBrain (D)
Origin: USA
Album :  Youtube live, 2009

This is seem like obviously a jamming session between Nicko McBrain and friends. Notable was of course Steve Vai on guitar. The duo partner was also notable guitarist Phil Hilbourne who already a regular guest at Nicko McBrain band. Vocalist was a little not convincing but still he managed to reach all the notes.  The intro riffs was very powerful with Steve and Phil adding more harmonics to it. Solos was killer but I think Steve should not 'wasted' the bar with that JEM tremolo tricks.

Steve Vai on our favorite Iron Maiden tunes!

Dungeon - Caught Somewhere In Time (2003)

Song : Caught Somewhere In Time
Performer : Dungeon
Origin: Australia
Album :  Rising Power Compilation, 2003

Dungeon was power / thrash metal band hailed from Sidney, Australia. They were active from 1989 to 2005 and gained lot of respect for its existence across the land. They cover Caught Somewhere In Time for a compilation album titled Rising Power.

The version gone power metal and its great. Vocals are fit the song and bring new feel. Drumming in double pedal ala power metal change a lot of the dynamic. This changing the standard galloping beat into more aggressive one. Lastly the duo guitars solos are just awesome. This rarely performed song now come alive with best setting in power metal styles.

A powerful version of Caught Somewhere In Time by the Australia power Dungeon.

Pellek - Deja Vu (2013)

Song : Deja Vu
Performer : Pellek (Damnation Angels)
Origin: UK
Album :  Youtube release / Free MP3

PelleK is frontman of UK based Symphonic Metal band, Damnation Angels. In his freetime he done a lot of heavy metal cover songs. You can discover some interesting tunes on his Youtube channel such as soundtrack of Final Fantasy IX (Melodies of Life), Naruto, along with The Beatles (Hey Jude) and of course heavy metal repertoire alike of Dio (Holy Diver) up to Angra and Nightwish. Not a bad taste dude... Of the Iron Maiden, it is understandable to see this handsome guy singing classic hit such as Wasted Years and Deja Vu.

I prefer more this version of Deja Vu, compared to his Wasted Years. It is now in straight forward heavy metal backing music. Pellek's voice seems much fit into Deja Vu rather than Wasted Years, mostly due to the song that need some high pitch attacks. Overall, Pellek sounds more original in this version.  The chorus "...feel like I have been it before!" got a new fresh scream on this version. The backing music comes with great running bass line. Guitar distortion is sounds a bit 'digital' but still fit into it. Great cover version addition to a rarely performed "Deja Vu" of Iron Maiden.

Taken that the track was distributed as free Mp3 and not so serious Youtube video release, the version is enjoyable to proclaimed! Heard this version of Iron Maiden Wasted Years, and with a whistle as well! As usual, support the band Damnation Angels with their latest album Bringer Of Light, and also Pellek's own solo album from 2013, Ocean of Opportunity as a reward for his work to give us Iron Maiden cover songs!

Not a bad taste dude... Of the Iron Maiden, it is understandable to see this handsome guy singing classic hit such as Wasted Years and Deja Vu.

The rendition of Wasted Years comes with bits of Symphonic Power Metal backing music feel. For the vocal itself, Pellek is much more modern type metal style, with tendency to falsetto-ed his higher pitch rather than scream it loud in old school Helloween style. So, the feel of Wasted Years comes a bit modern / alternative rock feel, but... in a backing track of power metal completed with double pedal section.

Taken that the track was distributed as free Mp3 and not so serious Youtube video release, the version is enjoyable to proclaimed! Wicked Machine - The Trooper (2011)

Song : Take My Life... The Trooper
Performer : Wicked Machine
Origin: Italy
Album : Wicked Machine, 2011

Wicked Machine is Italian heavy metal band. In their debut album from 2011 there is a bonus track of The Trooper. This time Wicked Machine stripped out the wire and go acoustic with this song. The result is a nice re-arrange The Trooper that kinda sad feeling. Solo guitar is good, as well the singing. The mixing also good, capturing all the vibes of un-distorted electric guitar.

Acoustic version of the Trooper.

Iron Maiden crowned with KERRANG! Inspiration Award 2013

The 2013 Kerrang! Magazine Award saw a massive list of great bands as their trophy recipient. From Queen, Slayer, Venom, Pantera and other coming on stage to get the honour. But the show's emotional moment was when Scott Ian (Anthrax) gave a speech for a Inspiration Award trophy, which went to Iron Maiden.

In the video released by BBC we saw Scott Ian symbolically present the trophy to the greatest metal band of all time, Iron Maiden. We saw a clip of Steve Harris receiving the trophy while given his 'speech' "We can't be here, because we were into the show.... I just want to say thank you for this twenty years..well, what can I say , amazing.... good luck..."

Scott Ian of Anthrax giving a nice testimony on Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden sure give enough inspirations for us, check the cover of their songs in this blog, and a list of cover albums and tributes.

A complete speech of Scott Ian's speech were posted on his website:

"    I can remember being in the record store the week Judas Priest’s British Steel came out. I was already a Priest fan and was fucking stoked to have a new Priest record to tear my head off. I had British Steel safely tucked under my arm and I was flipping through the record bins, and I saw an album cover that I had never seen before. An album cover to my then 16 year old eyes, that was the coolest fucking thing I had ever seen.

The name of the band and the logo were so cool I would’ve bought the record just because of that. That logo, in just a few years would define heavy metal. The artwork, a zombie with Johnny Rotten’s hair maniacally staring at me from the cover, telling me that this record HAD to be great.

This was the only copy they had of this record so I grabbed it and when I got home I couldn’t wait to listen to it. The monster on the cover was compelling me, my hands violently ripping the plastic from the cover, sliding the vinyl out of it’s sleeve, I was sweating with anticipation as I dropped the needle on to track one and the first chords of Prowler assaulted my ears and in that instant, my whole life changed.

Iron Maiden ruled my world for the next decade. No other band was as big of an influence on Anthrax. Creatively we looked up to them as a band because they did everything their own way, not giving a shit about what was trendy or popular because they were Iron Maiden.

Professionally we looked up to them because their organization was from band to management to crew an incredible massive machine that would travel the planet on tour and night after night after night never give less than 100%.
We were lucky enough to be taken under their wing early on, touring with them for months at a time and getting the greatest education a band could ever get. We went to fucking Maiden school and we were better for it.

Ladies & Gentlemen I am honored to give the Kerrang! Inspiration award to the greatest metal band of all time, Iron Maiden."

Anthrax will playing with Iron Maiden soon in late 2013 for Europe and Israel soon, so, that another lesson Scott! \m/

Hammer Fight - Be Quick Or Be Dead (2013)

Song : Be Quick Or Be Dead
Performer : Hammer Fight
Origin: US (New Jersey)
Album :  Chug of War, 2013

Hammer Fight is thrash metal band from Atlantic City, NJ, USA. They are fresh from oven and only so far released an EP in 2012. The latest news from them was, a full length debut album titled "Chug of War" was finished in recording kitchen, ready to release but no further news. The tracks can be listen on their official Stereokiller website.

And through this also, we detected a new Iron Maiden's Be Quick or Be Dead cover. Hammer Fight fit their thrash-y sounds into the song. Fit quite well, the vocals come alive with harsh voices. Guitars are clear, the solos come in faithful but of course they getting in some spices. We welcome Hammer Fight into the thrash metal fighting pit, and make sure they get their worth attention as a payback to giving us a new Iron Maiden cover. Support their upcoming debut album, Chug of War as well.

Another enjoyable rendering of Be Quick Or Be Dead in thrash metal spirit.

Chaos Heidi - Infinite Dreams (2013)

Song : Infinite Dreams
Performer : Chaos Heidi
Origin: French
Album :  Youtube released

Chaos Heidi is metal vocalist from French. She is active as singer for Asylum Pyre, a Paris based Progressive Metal. So far, Heidi already recorded at least three Iron Maiden songs, you can check on her other track, Run To The Hills and 2 Minutes To Midnight.

This version of Infinite Dreams perhaps one of rarest to be found, especially sung by a female vocalist. Heidi sing this in great accuracy, converted all Bruce Dickinson's notes into hers. Just a very minor adjustment to the song to fit Heidi's character, but 95% this is notes per notes as original. This mean covering Bruce's trademark screams and the ending descending pitch also welly done. Heidi make this performance into Idols-like standard. They are all in a Youtube video for you to watch. The music itself is a minus one backing track.

You can follow Chaos Heidi in her band Asylum Pyre in their latest album "Fifty Years Later". Meanwhile she also performed with her Iron Maiden cover band in French, city of Martigues. The cover band simple called Maid'n the Beast, you access to their newly created Facebook page here.

Deathchain - Purgatory (2010)

Song : Purgatory
Performer : Deathchain
Origin: Finland
Album : Sotajumala / Deathchain Split released, 2010

Deathchain is Finland death thrash metal. In the split released with Sotajumala, they covered Iron Maiden's classic "Purgatory". Again, as in Sotajumala, although coming from death metal background, the vocal is not in growling mode. This song with Paul Di'Anno in original form comes alive with crispy riffs and awesome drumming. The vocals mimic Di'Anno style in a good way. The breakdown with bass and drum maintained the spirit of this less performed Iron Maiden's classic.

One of great version of a rare Purgatory.

Sotajumala - Prowler (2010)

Song : Prowler
Performer : Sotajumala
Origin: Finland
Album : Sotajumala / Deathchain Split released, 2010

Sotajumala is Finland death thrash metal. In the split released with Deathchain, they covered a good version of Iron Maiden's Prowler. Although coming from death metal background, the vocal is not in growling mode, but in a good thrash feel. Prowler, as usual get an aggressive adaptation on this. The running melody by guitars are clear and nice, solos are good. In the last turn of chorus the vocal added a bit of growling to make this even more 'character'.

Great covered with a touch of thrash metal for Prowler.

Anachronaeon - Wasting Love (2011)

Song : Wasting Love
Performer : Anachronaeon
Origin: Sweden
Album : internet release 2011

Anachronaeon is a Sweden death metal band, they were once known as Human Failures. For Iron Maiden's Wasting Love, the band had transformed it into completely different tunes. Only the chorus and several elements take enable us to identify this as the ballad from Fear of the Dark album by Iron Maiden. The style is in death metal, rhythm and other instrumentation are able to lift up the song interpretation. Death metal vocal is enjoyable here. Solo guitars is great and taking most elements from the original, but in faster lead now. The band had ever since released several albums, The Ethereal Throne (2012), The Futile Quest For Immortality (2010) and The New Dawn (2005), so support this talented band.

Fozzy - The Prisoner (2000)

Song : The Prisoner
Performer : Fozzy
Origin: USA
Album : Fozzy, 2000

For over 20 years, Fozzy had been criminally locked in a room of sushi and geishas...forced under the sword  to write many heavy metal classics that we actually heard today. This is a story according Fozzy, the heavy metal band that frontman by Chris Jericho. He is quite serious about singing the metal tunes as his talent is as hard as his power slam. Well, The Prisoner was actually one of their 'materials', their 'true version' is strong, and crispy in style of heavy metal. Singing is well done, as well the rest of instrumentation. Guitarist in charge are extremely original in style and tunes. For a band 'in this type', the production is cyrstal clear. Come to heard this real rockstar we strangely never heard before, in their debut album Fozzy, as well several songs that had been sung by Black Sabbath and eye raising other line ups.

The real The Prisoner (?)....in unbelievable perfect cover.

Brown Brigade - Hallowed Be Thy Name (2007)

Song : Hallowed Be Thy Name
Performer : Brown Brigade
Origin: Canada
Album : Into the Mouth of Badd(d)ness 2007

Brown Brigade is heavy metal band formed by ex Sum 41guitarist Dave "Brownsound" Baksh. The version of Hallowed Be Thy Name is strickly following the original, but the re-works of every instrumentation and vocals is worth listening. Singer is slightly weird at the beginning but eventually developed into awesome performances. The duo guitars works are excellent, the rhythm and solos are sounds just like the '80s. Bass are audible with drums work also good. The intro is too fast making it a bit unfamiliar but this is pay off in the song section. The version is on their debut album Into the Mouth of Badd(d)ness 2007.

Interesting version of Hallowed Be Thy Name and high quality of sounds

Styles: Heavy Metal
Faithful to Original version: yes
Re-Arrangements: 3/5 - good retouch (1=notes per notes, 5=extreme deviation)

Metal Styx - Brave New World (2012)

Song : Brave New World
Performer : Metal Styx

Album : Магический амулет (Magical Amulet) (2012)

There is little information available for Metal Styx. They are from Russia obviously and the cover of Brave New World found in their 2012 album, the titled translated as Magical Amulet. They are Black metal band with a folk instrument attached. The version of Brave New World is interesting, the intro and first verse are re-arranged into folk instrumental version but the vocal is growling black metal style. The solos with violin sound is also awesome.

Interesting version of Brave New World in folk black metal.
