Dungeon - Caught Somewhere In Time (2003)

Song : Caught Somewhere In Time
Performer : Dungeon
Origin: Australia
Album :  Rising Power Compilation, 2003

Dungeon was power / thrash metal band hailed from Sidney, Australia. They were active from 1989 to 2005 and gained lot of respect for its existence across the land. They cover Caught Somewhere In Time for a compilation album titled Rising Power.

The version gone power metal and its great. Vocals are fit the song and bring new feel. Drumming in double pedal ala power metal change a lot of the dynamic. This changing the standard galloping beat into more aggressive one. Lastly the duo guitars solos are just awesome. This rarely performed song now come alive with best setting in power metal styles.

A powerful version of Caught Somewhere In Time by the Australia power Dungeon.

Styles: Power Metal

Pellek - Deja Vu (2013)

Song : Deja Vu
Performer : Pellek (Damnation Angels)
Origin: UK
Album :  Youtube release / Free MP3

PelleK is frontman of UK based Symphonic Metal band, Damnation Angels. In his freetime he done a lot of heavy metal cover songs. You can discover some interesting tunes on his Youtube channel such as soundtrack of Final Fantasy IX (Melodies of Life), Naruto, along with The Beatles (Hey Jude) and of course heavy metal repertoire alike of Dio (Holy Diver) up to Angra and Nightwish. Not a bad taste dude... Of the Iron Maiden, it is understandable to see this handsome guy singing classic hit such as Wasted Years and Deja Vu.

I prefer more this version of Deja Vu, compared to his Wasted Years. It is now in straight forward heavy metal backing music. Pellek's voice seems much fit into Deja Vu rather than Wasted Years, mostly due to the song that need some high pitch attacks. Overall, Pellek sounds more original in this version.  The chorus "...feel like I have been it before!" got a new fresh scream on this version. The backing music comes with great running bass line. Guitar distortion is sounds a bit 'digital' but still fit into it. Great cover version addition to a rarely performed "Deja Vu" of Iron Maiden.

Taken that the track was distributed as free Mp3 and not so serious Youtube video release, the version is enjoyable to proclaimed! Heard this version of Iron Maiden Wasted Years, and with a whistle as well! As usual, support the band Damnation Angels with their latest album Bringer Of Light, and also Pellek's own solo album from 2013, Ocean of Opportunity as a reward for his work to give us Iron Maiden cover songs!

Styles: Heavy Metal
Faithful to Original version: faithful but there are large portion of free interpretation both on vocals and musics
Re-Arrangements: 4/5 (1=notes per notes, 5=extreme deviation)
Vocals: 5/5
Rhythm guitar: 4/5
Solos: 4/5
Bass: 5/5
Drums: 3/5
Sound and Production: 4/5

Not a bad taste dude... Of the Iron Maiden, it is understandable to see this handsome guy singing classic hit such as Wasted Years and Deja Vu.

The rendition of Wasted Years comes with bits of Symphonic Power Metal backing music feel. For the vocal itself, Pellek is much more modern type metal style, with tendency to falsetto-ed his higher pitch rather than scream it loud in old school Helloween style. So, the feel of Wasted Years comes a bit modern / alternative rock feel, but... in a backing track of power metal completed with double pedal section.

Taken that the track was distributed as free Mp3 and not so serious Youtube video release, the version is enjoyable to proclaimed! Heard this version of Iron Maiden Wasted Years, and with a whistle as well! Wicked Machine - The Trooper (2011)

Song : Take My Life... The Trooper
Performer : Wicked Machine
Origin: Italy
Album : Wicked Machine, 2011

Wicked Machine is Italian heavy metal band. In their debut album from 2011 there is a bonus track of The Trooper. This time Wicked Machine stripped out the wire and go acoustic with this song. The result is a nice re-arrange The Trooper that kinda sad feeling. Solo guitar is good, as well the singing. The mixing also good, capturing all the vibes of un-distorted electric guitar.

Acoustic version of the Trooper.

Styles: Acoustic
Faithful to Original version: re-arranged

Iron Maiden crowned with KERRANG! Inspiration Award 2013

The 2013 Kerrang! Magazine Award saw a massive list of great bands as their trophy recipient. From Queen, Slayer, Venom, Pantera and other coming on stage to get the honour. But the show's emotional moment was when Scott Ian (Anthrax) gave a speech for a Inspiration Award trophy, which went to Iron Maiden.

In the video released by BBC we saw Scott Ian symbolically present the trophy to the greatest metal band of all time, Iron Maiden. We saw a clip of Steve Harris receiving the trophy while given his 'speech' "We can't be here, because we were into the show.... I just want to say thank you for this twenty years..well, what can I say , amazing.... good luck..."

Scott Ian of Anthrax giving a nice testimony on Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden sure give enough inspirations for us, check the cover of their songs in this blog, and a list of cover albums and tributes.

A complete speech of Scott Ian's speech were posted on his website:

"    I can remember being in the record store the week Judas Priest’s British Steel came out. I was already a Priest fan and was fucking stoked to have a new Priest record to tear my head off. I had British Steel safely tucked under my arm and I was flipping through the record bins, and I saw an album cover that I had never seen before. An album cover to my then 16 year old eyes, that was the coolest fucking thing I had ever seen.

The name of the band and the logo were so cool I would’ve bought the record just because of that. That logo, in just a few years would define heavy metal. The artwork, a zombie with Johnny Rotten’s hair maniacally staring at me from the cover, telling me that this record HAD to be great.

This was the only copy they had of this record so I grabbed it and when I got home I couldn’t wait to listen to it. The monster on the cover was compelling me, my hands violently ripping the plastic from the cover, sliding the vinyl out of it’s sleeve, I was sweating with anticipation as I dropped the needle on to track one and the first chords of Prowler assaulted my ears and in that instant, my whole life changed.

Iron Maiden ruled my world for the next decade. No other band was as big of an influence on Anthrax. Creatively we looked up to them as a band because they did everything their own way, not giving a shit about what was trendy or popular because they were Iron Maiden.

Professionally we looked up to them because their organization was from band to management to crew an incredible massive machine that would travel the planet on tour and night after night after night never give less than 100%.
We were lucky enough to be taken under their wing early on, touring with them for months at a time and getting the greatest education a band could ever get. We went to fucking Maiden school and we were better for it.

Ladies & Gentlemen I am honored to give the Kerrang! Inspiration award to the greatest metal band of all time, Iron Maiden."

Anthrax will playing with Iron Maiden soon in late 2013 for Europe and Israel soon, so, that another lesson Scott! \m/
